The Brentwood/North Brentwood Rain Check Blitz is a pilot initiative designed to bring low impact development (LID) and green infrastructure practices directly to homeowners. Residents receive fully funded technical support—from consultation and design through construction—to install small-scale stormwater practices on their properties to better manage runoff and improve drainage conditions.
Building on the County’s Rain Check Rebate program, the Blitz focuses on LID and green infrastructure features that manage stormwater where it falls. Eligible practices included rain gardens, downspout disconnects, cisterns, pavement removal, and conservation landscaping – all designed to increase infiltration and reduce runoff volume. These small-scale practices can address drainage concerns on individual properties while contributing to broader community stormwater goals.

Each installation is tailored to the specific site conditions and needs of the property owner, offering practical tools to manage stormwater on private property. To date, 21 homes across Brentwood and North Brentwood have received custom-designed green infrastructure practices. The remaining funds will support an installation on a commercial property in North Brentwood.

The Rain Check Blitz demonstrates how neighborhood-focused LID and green infrastructure supports community stormwater initiatives, builds homeowner awareness, and complements larger-scale drainage improvements. The lessons learned from this pilot will inform future homeowner- and community-based stormwater initiatives in Prince George’s County.
