Students > Exploration Topics > Pollution Prevention

Welcome!

As a young scientist and researcher you must begin by defining the problem. The questions and comments provided below can be used as guidance.
You are encouraged to refer to the scientific method in developing your research project.
Please remember that your project is not only a chance to reinforce the skills you learn in the classroom, but it is also an opportunity to educate your peers and the community on issues related to water quality.
Notice the Related Activities link to the right. They are designed to provide a guided experience and assist you in developing your own research ideas.

Topic: Pollution Prevention

What are some pollution sources at your school?

What chemicals are used in the science labs?

How are the chemicals disposed of?  Are any of them being recycled?

What are the implications of pouring the waste down the drain?  Where does it go?  How does it impact the water quality?

Can you scale down the experiments in order to minimize waste?

How does the lawn maintenance staff fertilize the school ground?  How do they dispose of it?  Are they using environmentally friendly chemicals?

Does your school have a cradle-to-grave tracking system for hazardous chemicals?
